What is the difference between PET and Bopet

PET and BOPET are both types of polyester film, but they differ in their manufacturing process and properties.

PET, or polyethylene terephthalate, is a thermoplastic polymer resin that is commonly used in the production of packaging materials, such as bottles, jars, and films. PET film is produced by melting PET resin and then extruding it through a flat die onto a polished chilled roller, where it solidifies into a film. PET film is transparent, has good dimensional stability, and excellent mechanical and chemical properties.

BOPET, or biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate, is a type of PET film that has been stretched in two directions, resulting in a film with improved mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, toughness, and tear resistance. BOPET film is produced by first extruding PET resin into a thick, flat sheet. The sheet is then stretched in both the machine direction (MD) and the transverse direction (TD), using a series of heated rollers. This stretching process orients the PET molecules in the film, improving its strength and reducing its thickness. BOPET film is commonly used in applications such as food packaging, electronic insulation, and graphic arts.

PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and BoPET (Biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) are both types of polyester films that are widely used in packaging, labeling, and industrial applications. However, there are some differences between the two.

Manufacturing Process: PET is a thermoplastic polymer that is produced by the condensation polymerization of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid or dimethyl terephthalate. BoPET, on the other hand, is produced by stretching PET film in two directions (biaxially) to orient the polymer chains and improve its physical properties.

Properties: BoPET has higher tensile strength, stiffness, and optical clarity than PET due to the orientation of the polymer chains. It also has a lower coefficient of friction and better barrier properties against gases and moisture. PET, on the other hand, has better thermal stability and is more resistant to creep and deformation.

Applications: PET is commonly used in beverage bottles, food packaging, and thermal insulation. BoPET is used in high-performance applications such as electrical insulation, flexible printed circuit boards, and metallized films for food packaging.

Cost: BoPET is generally more expensive than PET due to the additional manufacturing steps and higher performance properties.

In summary, PET and BoPET are both types of polyester films with some differences in their manufacturing process, properties, applications, and cost. The choice between the two depends on the specific requirements of the application.
